Ipswich Town have significantly bolstered their engine room by finalizing the permanent signing of Serbian international midfielder Saša Lukić from Fulham. While the transfer fee remains undisclosed, the move marks the end of Lukić's highly productive three-and-a-half-year spell at Craven Cottage. Notably, Lukić becomes the second Fulham player to make the switch to Suffolk this summer, following defender Issa Diop's move to Portman Road back in July.
Since arriving in West London from Serie A outfit Torino in January 2023, Lukić established himself as a model of consistency and grit. He went on to make 92 Premier League appearances and featured more than 100 times in all competitions for Fulham, chipping in with three goals. His reputation as a combative, dependable midfielder was forged through his tireless work rate and physical resilience. This was best exemplified last season by a remarkably brave, contested header away at Newcastle United’s St. James’ Park, where a bloodied Lukić epitomized the sheer determination that made him a fan favorite.
Reflecting on his departure, Lukić expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Fulham faithful: "It’s never easy to move on, but after four unforgettable seasons, the time has come. I want to thank the Club, my teammates, the staff, and especially the fans for all the support, trust, and unforgettable memories. It has been an honour to wear this badge and represent this historic club. I leave with nothing but gratitude and wish Fulham all the best for the future."
Fulham’s Vice Chairman and Director of Football Operations, Tony Khan, also paid a glowing tribute to the departing midfielder: "Since joining in 2023, Saša Lukić has been a fantastic professional, always giving his best for the Club when called on. He's also a great person, and we all wish him the best in this new chapter at Ipswich Town. Congratulations, Saša, and thank you!"
From a tactical perspective, Lukić’s arrival is a massive coup for Ipswich Town. As the club aims to establish its footing and compete against the elite in the Premier League, securing a midfielder with extensive top-flight experience and tactical maturity was a primary objective. Lukić brings an immediate defensive shield, exceptional positional discipline, and a physical edge capable of disrupting opposition transitions. His prior understanding and chemistry with Issa Diop will also accelerate his integration, potentially forming a solid defensive spine that will prove crucial during demanding fixtures.
For Fulham, Lukić’s departure presents an opportunity to recalibrate their midfield dynamics and perhaps integrate fresh talent. For Ipswich, however, acquiring a seasoned Serbian international provides invaluable depth, stability, and leadership both on and off the pitch. As the grueling Premier League campaign progresses, Lukić’s combative spirit and experience could well be the catalyst that guides Ipswich Town toward achieving their seasonal objectives.
